How to Repair Wicker Patio Furniture?

To repair the leg of a chair on which, you see a loose wicker wrapping, cut a piece of wicker caning; soak the wooden piece in water for around 30 to 35 minutes, which will make it a lot more flexible. Apply some glue on the inner side of loose portion of the wrapping.

Now, insert that end of new stand and tap it till it is in place. Do the tapping with a smaller tack. Snugly wrap the new cane’s length around the chair’s leg and again add some glue at the place where the wrap ends. With the help of another tack, secure that end and get rid of any extra caning if left. Repairing wicker furniture can get tricky if you are not aware of the steps.

Replacing a Broken Caning Strand in Wicker Patio Sets

The process of replacing a broken or missing caning strand in any of the wicker patio sets is very similar to what is described above. Get a piece of wicker and soak in water for around 30 minutes. With the help of one of the utility knives, chop off any protruding portion of the older stand and if it is possible glue that end to underside of one of the intersecting pieces of cane.

After the strand has softened, cut a slight longer section compared to the piece that is to be replaced. Beneath the woven strand apply a little glue. Tuck one of the ends into woven thicker, just next to that broken strand.

Now, start weaving this new piece similarly as the older one by making use of needle nose pliers that can often come handy. After the strand looks to be in place, remove any excess that can be seen, and tuck those ends beneath one of the intersecting pieces.

Both the processes do sound totally similar, but there are certain differences that need to be noticed closely.
